Die Cutting & Converters
Magnetic Cylinders for Flexographic Web Presses
Bunting® offers flexographic narrow-web and mid-web cylinders designed to streamline setups and reduce die costs by enabling the use of flexible dies.
X-treme® Die-Cutting Cylinders
In 2005, Bunting® revolutionized the industry with the introduction of the X-treme® Magnetic Die-Cutting Cylinder—the first of its kind to achieve total runout accuracy below 40 millionths of an inch (1 micron).
Our X-treme® cylinders are precision-machined to the tightest tolerances in the industry, allowing for the exceptional quality required by today’s close-tolerance dies. Equipped with powerful magnets, these cylinders securely lock dies in place, preventing any lifting or shifting. This innovation not only extends die life but also reduces false starts and ensures clean cuts on even the thinnest materials, including 1-mil stock with less than 1-mil liners, “no-look” labels, and synthetics.
Key Benefits:
- Gain a competitive edge in die-cutting quality, speed, and profitability.
- Replace expensive hard tooling with cost-effective flexible dies.
- Achieve top-quality results with Bunting® Super Grind precision finishing.
- Change and mount dies quickly and easily—directly on the press.
- Maintain exact registration with powerful Ceramic or Rare Earth magnets.
- Increase press speeds for greater efficiency.
- Work with a broader range of substrates, including thin films.
- Reduce wear and tear on your equipment.

Standard Die-Cutting Cylinders
Bunting® Standard Die-Cutting Cylinders are designed to save you money both upfront and with every run by eliminating the need for costly engraved cylinders. Equipped with powerful surface-mounted magnets, these cylinders ensure that every square inch of the flexible steel dies is securely held against the precision-ground cylinder.
Built with a solid-metal core, these cylinders eliminate deflection, enhancing output quality and standing up to even the most demanding die-cutting applications, including steel-to-steel operations.
Key Benefits:
- Prepare new jobs in minutes with faster setup times.
- Save time and labor on every changeover.
- Mount economical flexible steel dies instead of expensive hard-tooled cylinders.
- Control depth of cut with fully hardened, removable bearers.
- Efficiently convert labels, business forms, envelopes, and folding cartons.
- Ideal for short-run jobs and digital roll converting.
- Increase profitability on short runs.

Folding Carton
Two Bunting® Magnetic Die-Cutting Cylinders can convert your narrow web press for folding carton and other die-cut production. These cylinders give you quick changeovers and guaranteed fit.
The economical steel dies they use offer fast turnaround, snap into place right on the press, stay securely in register, save storage space, and cost a small fraction of hard tooling. Standard scribe-lines help you guide dies into position. Optional pin registration makes setups even faster. Available with optional anti-backlash gears.
Key Benefits:
- Expand your pressroom capabilities.
- Convert folding cartons, labels, business forms, and envelopes.
- Prepare new jobs on the press in minutes.
- Save time and labor on every changeover.
- Replace costly hard-tooled cylinders with economical flexible steel dies.
- Get raised, reversed, or interrupted creases.
- Select burst or crush cutting or bi-level slit-over-perforation cuts.
- Control precise depth of cut with fully hardened removable bearers.

Anvil Cylinders
Bunting® Anvil Cylinders are precision ground to complement the dimensional uniformity of our magnetic cylinders, helping you produce superior work in printing or conversion applications.
These nonmagnetic cylinders can be used in both magnetic and conventional setups for your printing runs. In conversion applications, they allow you to fully capitalize on the quality of Bunting® X-treme™ or Standard Series Magnetic Die-Cutting Cylinders and today’s close-tolerance dies.
Key Benefits:
- Gain a competitive edge in printing, die-cutting, and hot stamping quality.
- Benefit from the durability of hardened tool-steel construction.
- Achieve superior results with Bunting precision finishing.
- Tighter tolerances allow for the use of thin films.
- Precision machining prolongs die life.
- Replacement anvil cylinders correct worn anvil cylinders.
- Reduce impact pressure.
- Minimize wear and tear on dies, plates, and presses.

Hot Stamping Cylinders
Bunting® Hot Stamping Cylinders are crafted from solid steel to ensure optimal heating characteristics for foil stamping.
These cylinders enable precise registration and quick setups directly on the press, without the need for time-consuming cool down periods. They deliver top-quality foil transfers even at high press speeds.
Key Benefits:
- Replace costly hard tooling with economical flexible plates that store flat, saving valuable space.
- Eliminate make-ready time and materials.
- Experience even, rapid heat transfer thanks to solid steel construction.
- Maintain precise registration with powerful surface-mounted magnets.
- Reduce false starts and spoilage.
- Run directly to the anvil with durable steel-backed silicone plates.
- Avoid the cost of cushion rolls.
- Achieve superior results on thin films, plastics, and adhesive-backed labels with reduced stamping pressure.
- Benefit from this economical alternative to solid tooling.
- Make short runs more profitable.
Operation:
- Cylinder temperatures should not exceed 450°F at any time. Exceeding this temperature may cause magnets to lose strength, cylinder swelling, and foil burning.
- Typical line speeds range from 80-150 FPM; higher speeds may lead to distortion issues.

Cerface™ Split Shell Cylinders
For Numbering Head Shafts and Collator Imprinters on Offset Business Forms, Presses, and Collators
Add second or third-color versatility to your press with minimal setup time. Bunting® Magnetic Split Shell Cylinders are designed to fit your numbering head shafts and collators. These cylinders mount and remove easily, allowing you to extend press capabilities by printing marginals, backers, and additional colors.

Letterpress Cylinders
Bunting® Magnetic Letterpress Sheet-Fed Cylinders allow you to mount plates close together with minimal trim, helping you save money on paper and steel-backed photopolymer plates, which are significantly more cost-effective than conventional cast-metal plates. For superior flatbed letterpress printing, consider our Bunting® Magnetic Bases.

Hot Spot Carbonizing Cylinders
For Carbon Printing
Magnetic mounting eliminates the need for messy make-ready materials and makes it easy to remove plates from a hot cylinder directly on the press. You can continue using your existing liquid or cal-rod system, making the switch to magnetic cylinders even more convenient and cost-effective.

Cerface™ Flat Bases
For Platen and Flatbed Printing and Die Cutting, one or more Bunting® Magnetic Cerface™ Flat Bases can be locked into an existing letterpress chase and quickly prepped.
